TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – The School of Accountancy, Business, and Hospitality (SABH) upsets School of Education, Arts, and Sciences (SEAS), 90-79, in the Basketball Finals to win the championship during the 58th Founding Anniversary of the University of Saint Louis, Saturday, February 18, at the Ter Meer Gymnasium.
A thrilling fourth quarter brought a finish to the four-day round-robin match of the men’s basketball as SABH dominated the hoops of USL, bringing home the gold to the yellow campus – Bishop Constant Jurgens in Leonarda.
SEAS settled for silver. Nearing the end of the game shuttering less than 56 seconds left on the clock is a heated rivalry of two new teams.
The game was already action-packed from the start with both teams leaving the first quarter with 27 points after a back-and-forth incursion.
In the second quarter, SABH quickly hooped a three; poured more in the later minutes and clinched an 11-point lead (38-27) to the scoreless SEAS, 3 minutes and 36 seconds in.
Although missing a lot of throws, SEAS stayed tough in defense accumulating four additional points (38-31).
The gymnasium was filled with wholesome laughter and a few hints of hardcore speech as the peculiar voice of a commentator conquered the gaudy cheers and beats of bass drums of opposing groups.
“Unang-una, magpapasalamat kami kay Lord dahil binigay [Niya] sa’min itong laro na’to. Binigay namin ang lahat ng best namin para makuha itong kampeonato na ito,” SABH point guard Juan Miguel “Bokbok” Turingan, a second-year BS Accountancy student, said in a post-game interview.
“First, we thank the Lord, because He gave us this game as a win. We gave all our best to get this championship.”
