The Internet is a big place and it’s nothing like the real world, but maintaining proper discipline should be achieved at all times. Netiquette is a combination of the words network and etiquette.

It is a term coined for acceptable online behavior. Responsibility is needed to be in everyone’s mind all the time.

When online, everyone is expected to follow netiquette rules because of the Online World’s sensitivity, security and the problem of Internet communication.

To begin, we should follow netiquette rules because of the Online World’s sensitivity. Users are really sensitive about the certain topics they talk about in the Internet.

That is why always double-checking the information you read and share is needed. Being cautious in what you easily believe at will help in maintaining proper online disposition.

It also helps when you search first before asking your friends, classmates, and teachers to ensure fast finding of solutions.

In addition, Netiquette guides you with how to handle privacy and teaches you all about Internet security. Clearly, the Internet is not a very private place, but if you follow the rules you will be safe and secured.

Everything you post is forever embedded online. That is why doing something inappropriate or disrespectful should be avoided.

Remember to treat everyone exactly the same way you want them to treat you. Value their private information by keeping it safe.

Finally, netiquette rules allow you to solve the problem of Internet communication. Online users will never understand each other if proper communication is not available.

In the Internet, people don’t hear text messages. So some might think text that is written in all capital letters indicate anger or annoyance. Your tone matters as much as your words.

Try saying something nice or phrases like “Thank you”, “please”, and “Good Morning/Afternoon”. Be polite and courteous both online and in person.

Communicating on the Internet can be quite complicated and hard.

It is nothing like the real world, but it also requires etiquette. Following these basic ethics when online will lead you to the finish line, if not, it will lead you nowhere.

It helps, trust me. Due to the pandemic, we are now using the Internet as our way to learn.

We are yet again facing a crisis, but who knows, maybe next year we will be back to the “Old Normal”.
