A few days ago, me and my Brother registered for the National ID System here in our Barangay. It was a quick interview, and we also had a photoshoot. Nah, I’m just kidding. It was for the ID picture. Wait a second doesn’t it’s only eligible for someone 18 years old or more?

That’s what I thought too. I did some research and turns out all Filipinos in the country can start registering for the national ID system by July 2020, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said. I saw younger kids in line too, so it’s not a big deal.

Quota? Nah. As of April 2021, 28 million Filipinos have pre-registered for the National ID system. Next month, May, an online registration portal will be launched by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

What is this for?

The Philippine Identification System ID or the Philippine Identification Card is the official national identity card for Filipino citizens worldwide and foreign permanent residents in the Philippines.

It’s main purpose is to provide valid proof of identification for all citizens and resident aliens.

5 years or lifetime?

The issuance of the ID cards is expected to start within 2021. It will eventually replace other IDs issued by the government. An official who romed in the City to list registrations, quoted that the card is valid for 5 years. Google however shows that it has a validity and expiration for a lifetime, strange.

What to do:

As a Filipino, you are urged to get this card. Register now! On your local registration stations, complete the first step of the process. This was first revealed and implemented way back in 2018, the card is free, I think.

Bring a copy of your Birth Certificate or a valid ID. Patiently wait in line for your interview. Some questions will be asked like your blood type, address, place of birth, cellphone number and other personal information for the ID card.

How about bringing an ID just for applying for another ID. Haha! Yeah I know it’s corny and actually true though.

In some cases others may have completed the process. I still need to undergo the second step. Which is another form of interview and maybe the finalization of my whole system.
